Salt is a preserving agent, keeping the church, the culture, the home, from turning rancid.
But the salty must remain salty! Responding to an altar call is only good if faith endures, a true conversion. Otherwise, we'll be trampled underfoot like the Israelites who didn't follow Jesus in 70 AD... the same sin they succumbed to is alive and well today.
In the Old Testament, God commanded salt be added to sacrifices, as if the sacrifice were a meal... a sign of a covenantal relationship with God. We are to live as salted sacrifices for the Lord! If our lives are required of us, we must be "salted" and ready to offer ourselves up to Him.
